St. Anthony the Great

Traditionally regarded as the founder of Christian monasticism, St. Anthony the Great is known to us through the biography written by his contemporary, St. Athanasius of Alexandria. Among the most memorable stories about Anthony are those of his many battles with demons. With God’s help, he repelled them and finally achieved a serenity so deep that people recognized him simply by the holiness he radiated. His counsel and example still help us today in our own struggles with evil.
